DESCRIPTION:
Offered for your review and consideration is this absolutely gorgeous, late 19th to early 20th century Chinese Export, antique, hand decorated, hand painted, pigskin covered, large ornamental trunk, featuring several Asian ladies in various situations, populating both interior domestic and exterior garden/veranda landscape settings. The highly decorative trunk was most likely produced between 1885 to 1915 and would have been created for the blossoming Chinese Export trade, where Europeans, British and the burgeoning American middle-class, suddenly finding themselves with disposable income as a result of the industrial revolution, developed a refined, particular taste and desire to decorate, with the perceived exotic nature and quality of these wonderful, highly decorative, hand painted Chinese pigskin wrapped boxes. The trunk boasts all original, untouched and unpolished brass hardware, with its original, naturally aged brass patina and color. The two tapered brass side handles on the trunk are present and intact. There's only a small red ink stain on the lid. With incredible landscapes and figuration. Absolutely beautiful and simply gorgeous. Very fine. What are you putting your stuff in?
