DESCRIPTION:
Estate fresh, uncleaned and absolutely 100% untouched, with no repairs (old or new) and no in-painting (old or new.) It and another oil painting by Gustav Igler are being offered just as they were always displayed in the finely appointed Boston estate they were originally found in, hanging on the walls of a study in a sprawling, stately Victorian mansion. This second of two works on board by the well-listed Austrian artist Gustav Igler features an older, white-haired tutor or professor, dressed in a traditional navy wool long coat and round cap holding a long tobacco pipe, watching his pupil, a young schoolgirl leaning forward, using a wax candle to light it. The girl's barefoot and is wearing a pleated wool skirt, apron and white blouse. The attentive tutor, with several instructional printed sheets of paper looks on, bemused his young student is as attentive and capable as she clearly is at such a young age. Realized with tremendous attention to every domestic detail, with fantastic light. Absolutely gorgeous. Only some minor surface issues. Very fine.
CONDITION:
Very Good to Excellent overall antique condition. Small area of gesso loss on ornate, decorative gold gilt frame.
