DESCRIPTION:

Absolutely, unconditionally untouched, undisturbed and unmolested. It remains exactly how it was discovered in the estate from where it had been for decades and from the date it was originally purchased by its former owners. This is a one owner American painting by the well-listed and nationally recognized American early to mid-20th century master Joseph John Jones, aka 'Joe Jones,' whose works are held in many important national museums across the country, with his public murals and socially conscious figurative works for the W.P.A. (Works Progress Administration) now held in the highest regard and whose canvases from the same period have realized over $100,000 at auction. I am very pleased to have been able to have acquired this work privately and directly from the estate of the collectors where it had been displayed for over 50 years. A stunning and incredible find. Fresh to the marketplace and unseen for literally decades by anyone other than close family members, friends or associates, who had previously been in the home while the owners were still alive. It is still in its original period, wide-format, gray washed and raked Modernist 1950's wooden frame, with a raised white painted liner. It is signed 'Joe Jones' by the artist in black paint in the lower left hand corner of the painting. Incredibly fluid and gestural, this work by Joseph John Jones demonstrates his emergence from the social realist school of the W.P.A., the Great Depression of the 1930's and the influence Modernism and the emerging New York School had upon him intellectually and artistically. This work seems to be more optimistic, less socially concerned and clearly looking forward, rather than back. In incredibly well-preserved overall vintage condition. It was literally taken off the nail in the plaster wall where it was displayed for over 50 years in the home. A ghost or shadow remained on the wall after it was removed, no doubt caused by sunlight undiminishing the wall paint directly behind the painting. It is on canvas and the canvas suffers not a single condition issue, with no tears, creases, buckling, water stains, color depreciation or other depreciating condition issues. Absolutely untouched and absolutely gorgeous. As alive and fluid as when it was originally realized. Magnificent and a really extraordinary mid-20th century American landscape, chronicling the transition and upheaval American painting experienced after World War II and the influence European Modernist painting had upon their American brothers and sisters. Simply wonderful. A message in a bottle and an American artistic impulse locked in amber and in time. Magnificent.

CONDITION:
Very Good to Excellent overall vintage condition.  All original with 'zero,' as in 'no' condition issues. Pristine and as it was encountered and discovered in the estate where it was found. It remains undisturbed and in nearly originally constituted condition. An extraordinary Modernist/American Post-Impressionist work by the well-listed American painter Joseph John Jones (aka Joe Jones.)
