DESCRIPTION:
Offered for your review and consideration is this rare, very handsome and complete, early 19th century French antique raised, ribbed leather spine, with covered board, 1844, large folio volume by M. Eugene Pacini (France, 19th century.) This was a profusely illustrated work, with both black and white, as well as hand-colored full page illustrations of French naval military officers, painted by hand, with opaque watercolor paint. The illustrations feature images of wooden warships and antique galleon ships of war, including images of shipbuilding, chained convicts, prisoners of war or slaves, chained to a wooden deck, manning a ship's rear rudder on the high seas. This was for its time, a fairly lavish, large folio publication and what could be described as an original coffee table book. With an unbroken leather spine and nearly unblemished chocolate brown covered front and back board covers, this handsome illustrated volume was clearly part of a larger antiquarian library, well kept and maintained over the years. A simply gorgeous early 19th century French literary volume of naval military history. Estate fresh. Absolutely gorgeous and very rare.
CONDITION:
Good to Very Good overall antique condition.
