DESCRIPTION:
In very well preserved overall antique condition. Natural mineral pigments are still found on the somewhat now diminished, hand carved, polychrome Buddhist temple wooden architectural elements/building details. This pair of mythological phoenix painted wooden figures, were said to have been removed from a Korean Buddhist temple in what's now South Korea, after the wooden temple either couldn't be saved due to structural issues or was slated to be demolished, as a result of explosive population growth and the construction of ever more automobile roadways and highways around Seoul. These hand carved architectural decorative elements, feature hand painted mythological flying phoenix's, complete with hooded heads, outstretched wings, carved tail feathers and arched bodies. The pair compliment each other and aren't an exact match. They feature natural mineral color pigment that's chalky and semi-transparent. There are no fractures, significant abrasions, unsightly scuffs, repairs (old or new) 'in-painting' or other damage. Extremely rare. Estate fresh. Found in a finely appointed Boston, Massachusetts estate. Superlative. Extraordinary. Gorgeous. Extremely rare. Very fine.
CONDITION:
Good to Very Good overall antique condition.
