 DESCRIPTION: 

This quite early, late 18th century leather bound vol of 'The Spectator,' was published in 1778. This is volume 2 of the bound 18th century Irish periodical publication. The leather binding is in relatively well-preserved overall antique condition, with an intact leather spine and cordovan title band, embellished with gold, gilt typography. The inset paper pages are the only pages with illustrations but they're quite memorable, with intricate, highly detailed woodblock illustrations. Although the leather spine is largely intact, there's some minor to moderate paper loss occurring on several of the beginning pages of the volume, largely occurring toward the bottom of the pages. This is unfortunate, since the volume was in otherwise fairly well-preserved antique condition. This was no doubt caused from frequent use and the less than gentle turning of the first few pages to get to where the reader had previously left off. Co-authored by Joseph Addison and Richard Steele and published by W. Wilson, Dublin, Ireland in 1778. 336 pgs. There's also incidences of minor tanning and foxing found therein. Now at 242 years old, it's an exceptionally early Irish literary volume bound in a largely intact, still supple leather binding. A handsome addition for any antiquarian and rare book personal library. What are you reading during the pandemic? Wonderful.
