DESCRIPTION:
In quite well-preserved overall condition, with perhaps only a single, slight scuff to the red lacquer and hand painted Chinese figurative landscape realized on the tabletop surface. This early turn-of-the-century, circa 1900-1920 Chinese Export American Chippendale style tilt-top occasional table, was lacquered and antiqued with several layers of semi-transparent glaze over enamel paint, with a wonderfully realized figurative landscape illustrated on its large, round table top. This 18th century mahogany antique Chippendale style furniture has padded feet that support hand carved tripod legs that meet, connected and fastened together with heavy, hand carved dovetails at a reeded, columnar, ascending central pedestal, that's hinged to a wooden doweled mahogany wood block at the top, allowing the table top to lay flat or to rest in an upright position. It has early, decorative brass hardware that still open and close freely and once the table top is down, it clasps back together, holding the table top in place. Although this form of early American furniture, inspired by an earlier English form, fell out of favor in the 19th century, it enjoyed a robust revival of sorts, with the return to style and very much in fashion and suddenly en vogue 'Chinoiserie,' Chinese decorated antique wooden furniture and decorative accessories. Absolutely beautiful and simply lovely. It's sure not to quit on you. It won't disappoint. Why would it? Estate fresh and nearly as it was originally constituted. Add a little of the exotic and foreign travel to your otherwise cookie-cutter, drab, white bread existence. Your friends will think you just returned from an exotic Far-East safari into the great unknown.
