MID-LATE 19TH CENTURY CHINESE ANTIQUE HAND CARVED BURLWOOD FIGURE OF A BEARDED MAN/MONK (INTEGRATED INTO THE NATURAL BURLWOOD ROOT)
(Circa 1845-1875)
(Circa 1845-1875)
19th c antique Chinese carved
wooden figures
CONDITION:
Good to Very Good overall antique condition. The figure is only missing one of its hands, that like the other one, would have slid into the drilled out hole in the arm, which would have accepted the pegged hand. The wooden sculpture is otherwise complete and in nearly unblemished condition. it hasn't been cleaned, oiled or tampered with. It's estate fresh and is being offered as it was discovered in the home of the estate. It's original patina is wonderful and it still has years of dust on it. No attempt has been made to disguise the loss of the hand or to have it replaced. The realization of the face is particularly well realized and the overall carving is simply extraordinary.
DIMENSIONS:
21" full Height
12" Chinese figure Height (w/o the base)
5" Width x 5" Depth
Base: 9" Height x 10" Width x 7 ½" Depth
