DESCRIPTION:
Outstanding and in extremely well-preserved overall condition. This simply unbelievable early 20th century, hinged oak frame and heavy canvas upholstered beach or patio lounge chair is complete with its original sun canopy and extending wood slat foot rest with a pivoting, hinged splayed leg assembly and two metal hooks which fit over the front wooden bar of the seat, holding it in place. The oak wooden frame has been reconditioned and lightly re-lacquered with a satin varnish. It's since mellowed and honeyed down. The granddaughter of its original owner had it reconditioned and the torn, original striped canvas fabric completely replaced, obviously valuing this incredible American cultural artifact from the roaring 20's, up until perhaps the early 1930's. This was a clearly valued piece handed down to the daughter by her mother. There are no splits or fractures in the oak wood frame and it has a soft, smooth varnished wood finish, without the usual splinters and coarse, dried-out wood surfaces often found on these antique oak sun chairs. The replaced canvas is a close copy of the original striped fabric.  It adjusts to three positions, like an antique, period oak, upholstered Morris chair. The infamous Swedish actress Greta Garbo would have been seen lounging poolside or on the deck of an ocean liner in such a lounge chair. These were not the property of just anyone. Glam, glitz and pure, unadulterated Hollywood. Meant for those with a little attitude. If chairs could kill, this would be a professional assassin. What are you relaxing and reading in on a warm summer afternoon, sipping iced tea by your pool or out on the rooftop balcony of your apartment? Fess us, you're most likely not luxuriating in nearly as aristocratic and regal lounge chair as this. Overhead sun canopy? Attached foot rest? And the best thing is you don't have to be Greta Garbo to own it. Absolutely amazing. Gorgeous and very clean.
