The leather spine's intact and the leather covers are mottled and have a variegated color finish. The interior pages are largely intact, with no loss, tears, repairs (old or new.) The leather spine's decorated with gold gilt stamped, embossed typography with the abbreviated title 'Indian Wars' on a charcoal black spine band, accompanied by double gold gilt embossed thin bands. One of the few and rare volumes about late 17th century New England history. In wonderful condition and a great addition to any antiquarian library of early American history and the history of the Native American people and their struggle against European settlement and confiscation of their historic lands.

PRINT TITLE:
'BLACK-EYED SUSAN'
Limited edition, Pencil signed original lithograph
By MARION GREENWOOD

DESCRIPTION:
Offered is this recently found and estate fresh, framed black and white lithograph print on artist's paper, by the celebrated and well-listed early to mid-20th century American figurative painter and muralist Marion Greenwood, from Brooklyn, New York. The piece for sale is a wonderful, circa 1940 lithograph print, titled 'Black Eyed Susan,' which is actually an image of a young Chinese girl holding flowers, when Marion Greenwood joined her husband working in China and realized the print, immortalizing this young Chinese girl. It's pencil signed by the artist, with a cursive signature in the lower right print margin. The print appears to be in its original, period, white washed, thin-profile wooden frame with an 'Artist's Association of America' (AAA) paper label of originality and authenticity affixed to the rear brown paper dustcover. The print's wonderfully realized and demonstrates not only Marion Greenwood's demonstrated draughtsmanship skills and artistic talent but also the sheer emotive power and human expressiveness of her figurative works. Once the famed Mexican muralist painter Diego Rivera proclaimed that Marion Greenwood and her artist sister were 'The greatest living women mural painters.' Marion Greenwood is pictured in a well-known black and white photograph of her and the internationally celebrated and infamous Mexican muralist painter Diego Rivera in Mexico City, Mexico, where the two can be seen standing, reviewing preliminary drawings or documents together. A pet monkey wearing a woven wool sweater is perched on Diego Rivera's shoulders and looks on curiously. A truly splendid work by an important early to mid-20th century American artist, Marion Greenwood. Beautiful.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION:
The well-listed and widely celebrated American figurative artist Marion Greenwood's life, was distinguished by a rich and varied experience in numerous parts of the world. She spent a great deal of time traveling in Europe, North Africa, Mexico and Asia, and completed a trip around the world. In Mexico she spent four years as part of the Mexican art movement, contributing an important series of murals for the walls of the University of San Nicolas Hidalgo in Morelia and for the Civic Center of Mexico City. Upon her return to the United States in 1936, she continued her mural work for the United States government as a Works Progress Administration (W.P.A.) muralist painter, after which she resumed easel painting. She won the Second Carnegie Award for her painting 'Mississippi Girl.' She was represented in the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the Encyclopedia Britannica Collection, the American Art Collections of the Universities of Arizona and Georgia, and other important private collections. This work was inspired by a stay of almost two years in South China. During that time she joined her writer husband, who had for a number of years, lived and worked in various parts of China. This afforded her an unusual opportunity to gain an intimate knowledge of the Chinese people. DESCRIPTION:
Offered is this estate fresh and new to the marketplace, fantastic, large format, mid-20th century North Shore, Rockport, Massachusetts School, framed nautical oil on canvas. There's a small puncture/hole and rear, old canvas patched repair on the lower left side (deep pthalo blue shadow of the boat reflection in the water.) This area was apparently professionally repaired and in-painted by either the artist or by a professional painting restorer, since the damage isn't noticeable upon viewing. In the spirit of transparency, honesty and forthrightness, this small condition issue is being mentioned. It's not fatal, appreciable or depreciating. The painting remains a large scale and quite remarkable, mid-20th century vintage oil on canvas and notable example of the Rockport, MA (North Shore) School of American Post-Impressionist oil painting, which blossomed after the conclusion of WWII and which put a strong emphasis on depicting harbor, fishing, nautical and maritime themes, with a distinctly painterly approach. Absolutely beautiful and quite large, it would have a real presence anywhere it was hung in your home, vacation retreat or office. Splendid.

CONDITION:
Good to Very Good overall vintage condition.
